Our Gamescom 2021 Highlights

This week was yet another big online game event for us all to witness what the latest developers and publishers have to offer. With lockdown and the pandemic still ongoing throughout this year even now in August, the majority of the gaming industry live events are still taking place via our screens at home but even so there was plenty to see and get excited about we will be discussing today.

So I just wanted to speak about my personal highlights from the week long event, we saw so many amazing, creative and innovative IP's on show, so many it would take days to discuss about them and all their details. However this is why I am about to showcase our most anticipated games shown, some key info and details about them.

Halo Infinite: Release Date Announcement

Microsoft biggest IP is getting its latest instalment just in time for Christmas, that's right, Halo Infinite has a release date finally. Unfortunately it was leaked ahead of the official reveal at Gamescom but either way we finally have the date of the 8th of December 2021.

Halo 6 or Infinite as its known is coming day one to game pass subscribers via Xbox X/S series and Windows 10 PC's. Launching with a campaign, multiplayer and battle royal with co-op story mode and forge world coming at a later date. Likely due to time constraints on the publishers wanting the title out for the holiday period. The last Halo I played and enjoyed was Reach, after the mixed receptions of 4 and 5, lets hope Infinite is well, infinitely better to say the least.

Saints Row: Reboot Reveal

One of the biggest surprises from the opening night event was that of a Saints Row reboot being developed by Deep Silver. It promises a return to its gangster routes, citing it as a return to Saints Rows 2 gameplay and feeling but with the cartoon almost Fortnite looking art style as its next gen coat of paint.

To say it had a mixed reception is an understatement, fans were divided as a vocal majority stated things on social media such as ''Nobody asked for this'', ''Saints Woke'', ''The game resembles Fortnite'' and that Deep Silver had ignored fans request to drop the whacky nature and return to the original games routes.

I have to agree personally I am not a fan of the new direction based off the initial CGI trailer and snippet of gameplay. Fans craved a return to form and it seems the developers want to go against the majority in this respect for their new project. A quick click to the announcement trailer shows an increasingly high dislike ratio. However the game releases worldwide on February 25th 2022 so you can chose to pick it up and judge the final product for yourself.

Horizon Forbidden West: Release Date

Arguably one of the most exciting details to come from the event for one if not the most anticipated Sony exclusive title. A release date for Horizon Zero Dawns long awaited sequel, Horizon Forbidden West has been revealed just days ago. Check out the previous gameplay reveal here.

18th of February 2022 is when you will be able to get your hands on Aloys vast new adventure in the western city of a ruined San Francisco. Coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 console owners and featuring new gameplay mechanics such as power ups, weapon upgrades, returning characters and brand new robotic monsters to fight like the Tremor Tusk.

Jurassic World Evolution 2: Release Date

Next up we have Frontiers next big park builder, from the movies to your consoles itself. Jurassic World is a franchise born from books and movies, evolving now to a virtual park in a new expansive and improved sequel. We also got our first look at its release date, that's right Jurassic World Evolution 2 is coming November 9th to platforms, check out the latest trailer here.

Personally I adore Dinosaurs, the media and history surrounding them. Games like this from developers such as Frontier make me a very happy man indeed and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Bringing those waves of vivid nostalgia from my childhood watching The Lost World and playing Jurassic Park Operation Genesis into my adult life.

Call Of Duty Vanguard: First Official Gameplay

First official gameplay of Sledgehammers new Call Of Duty was shown at the gamescom event, known as 'Vanguard' set in the WW2 era as you play as various soldiers from differing countries as the conflict evolves. Gameplay displayed cinematic experiences mixed with boots on the ground sniper gameplay alongside some high octane action during an air raid over Stalingrad, in the Soviet Union.

Offering different perspectives, narratives and characters to give the player unique stories to follow while getting that classic COD feeling of pre-advanced warfare. Featuring campaign, online competitive matches, zombies and a brand new game mode 'Champion Hill'. Releasing in November on the 5th, it promises a return to a grounded story focused experience for long time players, after the success of Cold War, its good too see more single player action.

Marvels Midnight Suns: Official Reveal

The long awaited and totally not leaked months before project from Firaxis games has been revealed at long last to the public, and is to be titled 'Marvels Midnight suns'. An XCOM like turn based superhero adventure with a customizable lead character set within a differing MCU style universe.

Not an awful lot is known currently about Midnight Suns, so we will be bringing you more details in the future but fans are looking forward to a new take on their favourite Marvel heroes without a doubt.

Check out the reveal trailer right here, for your first look at this new project.

Park Beyond: Reveal Announcement

A brand new whacky and colourful park management is on the horizon for release in 2022 by the name of Park Beyond. The game was revealed on opening night and by first impressions it seems very like a new generation Theme Park World. Which is a great thing undoubtedly for fans of the original, the game will let you push your imagination to the limit.

That's a wrap on our Gamescom 2021 highlights and top picks, there was plenty of other reveals and news that are worth checking out yourself but we hope we brought you some information and reveals you are excited for!
