Rockstar has answered our prayers, for years fans have wanted ports of the original PS2 trilogy updated with a remaster style graphical upgrade. Now in 2021, that dream has come true with the announcement of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition releasing this Christmas holiday season.

''Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, with high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.'' - Rockstar Games

The trilogy package will feature a range of graphical, performance and control based enhancements such as 4K support, 60fps, a rebuilt lighting system, improved weather effects, the ability to restart missions at the press of a button plus more. You can check out the official reveal trailer right here for yourself.

Areas of the 3 cities and environments it inhabit look incredibly well lit in the new engine, detailed and thoroughly expanded upon in a way yet unprecedented with the series classics. Rockstar certainly have surprised us and fans alike with way more effort put into this than previously expected. Majority of fans had become very concerned via social media that this was merely another money making scheme given the original games had been delisted from online stores. However now we can see why they probably made the tough decision to remove these due to the improved versions.

Character models are very recognisable to say the least but have had a big graphical overhaul, still keeping that classic look but with more detail and shine to them. These do lead to other questions with what has been changed, improved or left the same?
Will the original cheats work?
Will we get the original radio OST?
Can Claude and Tommy finally swim?
Lots of interesting what if and what could be questions stem from this announcement and reveal. Its certainly an exciting time for fans who grew up with this controversial series to be sure.
From Liberty City, to Grove Street we are being treated to a fully updated version of 3 nostalgic titles, which you wont have to wait too long for as the planned release date for the trilogy pack is now November the 11th of 2021 for $60 digitally but if you are a collector it will be December 6th of the same year before you can get a disc based copy.

It will be a surprise perfect present for long-time fans, so whether its a partner who grew up with Big Smoke in the early 2000's, a son who misses his time in Liberty or a mother who lost herself in the city of Vice with collars bigger than Trumps ego. It is more than fair to say Rockstar have showcased after a trying time of milking GTA: Online and a grand old western adventure in Red Dead 2 that they still do care enough to bring us some old classics.
Fan service at its finest!
